Villota stretches across the San Rafael meander in Laserna, Rioja Alavesa. Four generations of the Pérez Villota family have managed the property.
The meeting point between the river and the mountain defines this natural space. An open landscape, formed by three wide terraces that descend gently towards the Ebro, protected to the north by rolling slopes of kermes oak and undergrowth.
A legacy of more than nine decades. A commitment to an old vineyard and respectful viticulture practices with the local territory. The right soils, a southern exposure, Mediterranean, Atlantic and alluvial influence.
Growing the indigenous Rioja varieties planted by our grandfather which we maintain today: Tempranillo, Graciano, Garnacha and Mazuelo for the reds; Viura and Malvasía, for the whites. And the introduction of Garnacha Blanca and Tempranillo Blanco, planted a few years ago.
After a painstaking selection, the grapes bestow on the wines a personality of their own, expressive and with great finesse. A balance of the finest fruit, mineral notes and lively sensibility.
Their character, finesse and balance are the result of the soils of the property, of the shoots in the carefully pruned vines exposed to the midday sun under the influence of the Ebro. Only perfectly healthy grapes are harvested. The ripe bunches are hand-picked and transported in boxes to the winery, where the various varieties are fermented separately until the final blend is decided. Once racked, the wine rests in French oak barrels until bottling.
Tempranillo, Graciano, Garnacha and Mazuela grapes from a variety of lowyielding plots. Aromatic intensity, supple tannins, integrated oak. Good ageing potential.
Tempranillo, Garnacha and Graciano. A red that straddles memory and tangible evidence, an expression of pure fruit, noble and juicy. It stands out for its finesse and elegance. Our distinctive and special selection.
Villota Viña Gena
Tempranillo. Viñedo Singular. Grapes from our oldest plots planted in 1930, 1963 and 1974, and which are destined to this new wine classification for excellent wines.
Old-vine Garnacha planted in 1979. Forty years later, it becomes the leading figure in this single-varietal wine.
100% Graciano displaying the pronounced aromatics and intense colour of this traditional Rioja variety planted in 1996/1997.
Tempranillo and Graciano. It retains freshness and subtle oak notes that enhance the fruit. Made to honour the traditional wine that used to be drank at home, with intense, lively colours and a balanced palate.
100% Viura sourced from our oldest plots and from a selection of white vines scattered among the reds, as vineyards were planted 80 years old. The free-run juice is fermented on its lees in French oak barrels for six months. It is full-bodied and persistent on the palate, with pleasant acidity, freshness and flavour.
Villota Selvanevada Blanco
Fermented in barrels with its lees, it is a blend of Viura and other varieties planted recently in our property such as Garnacha Blanca, Malvasía and Tempranillo Blanco.
